Building the Tidlo Kitchen Station, according to my husband, was a piece of cake (all puns intended). Clear instructions and everything where it should be, the kitchen, once built was the perfect size for not only the playroom but our relatively tall 3 year old. We surprised her with the kitchen and her face was a picture. In her words, “Wow, a proper kitchen at last!”

There’s a terrific amount of role play to be had with this. What with the extras included; tea towel, 3 x utensils, salt and pepper pots, casserole dish, frying pan and kettle, my daughter doesn’t know what to make first! Her imagination runs wild, Heston Blumenthal watch this space. With the added bonus of her very own sink with taps, my daughter actually asked if she could help with the washing up. Result. The ‘sink’ bowl comes out and doubles as a mixing bowl for when my daughter is ‘baking’. I love the fact that on any given day I can find a different ingredient hidden in the casserole dish too and I’m often being offered a plastic fried egg ‘freshly’ cooked in her frying pan.

Accessories Lots of accessories!

The double doors of the oven open and close easily and safely. With a plastic ‘pane of glass’ in the same pattern as my own oven my daughter loves to make plasticine cakes to bake in the oven. The salt and pepper pots are always being brought to the family dinner table as she now understands the need for seasoning – something she learnt from role play. This truly is a beautiful and educational toy; an exceptional item for a child to own.

Cloth

From a mummy point of view, the size of the ‘oven’ is perfect for storage, well a little girl can never have too many tea sets and they fit perfectly inside the station. So this helps at tidy-up time, which can only be a bonus! Plus, with an increasingly inquisitive child around me whilst cooking it’s so, so handy for her to have her very own kitchen. She can be ‘creating’ masterpieces whilst I cook dinner.

Oven Perfect for storage too

The kitchen is finished in a reddish tone with silver sections, perfect for either boy or girl and the quality of workmanship is apparent with every little detail thought of, and the finish is delightful with attention to detail such as the temperature markings on the hob switches and the tea towel rail. Worth noting, there are handles cut out of either side of the kitchen for easy manoeuvrability – handy when your child has butterfingers and you have to retrieve all sorts of play-food from behind it/underneath it!

Having played, and grown out of, a couple of character-led kitchens the Tidlo Kitchen Station is a ‘keeper’. She won’t grow out of this, fall out of love with it, she will share it with her friends and even her boy friends won’t be able to resist playing with it – not a princess in sight (well apart from one).
