  • Wooden Toys and Cognitive Development

A very interesting thing happened over Christmas. I was very happy that so many members of my family chose to support our new business venture and bought lots of wooden toys for smaller members of the clan, especially for my cousin’s 15 month old son. When Mum and Dad and Baby E visited my parents on Boxing Day, the little fellow was presented with a procession of wooden toys. This was especially fascinating for me because try as we might, it is impossible to see all of our toys ‘in action’. Continue reading

  • Five Plan Toy Crackers

As September approaches we have been reviewing our toy selection ahead of the busy Christmas period and speaking of planning, we thought it was about time we celebrated Plan Toys once more with a quick list of five of our favourites from our friends at Plan.

Plan Toys Punch and Drop: some toys need very little description or justification; sometimes the photo says more than words. This wonderfully simple toy is perfect for little ones who are beginning to use their hands to pick things up and who love banging anything that comes to hand! Little babies will love grabbing the coloured balls, fitting them into the holes then giving them a good old bash with the hammer. Absolutely brilliant!

Plan Toys Dancing Alligator: this toy is an award winner and it’s easy to see why. Children love pulling this cute alligator along. He smiles up at his young owner and clicks and clacks as he moves along the floor. It’s colourful, it’s noisy and you can take it anywhere. A winner!

Plan Toys Breakfast Menu: like so much of the fabulous play food we have in store, you’ll have to look twice at this magnificent breakfast set. Served on a very handy wooden tray, this full breakfast comprises a rasher of bacon, a sausage, fried egg, two slices of toast, cheese and a crusty bread roll. Of course, we couldn’t forget seasoning so there is also a salt and pepper set to delight your little chef!

Plan Toys Activity Clock: what a clever toy! This ingenious toy clock matches time telling skills with learning how to plan. The lovely wooden clock comes with fully moveable hands which add fun and interactivity to learning. Nine basic activity cards also come with this set (plus three blanks), each of which can be slotted in to the top of the clock and matched with a specific time. Tea time at 5 o’clock? Check. Bath time at 6? Check. Bed time at 7? Check. Combining learning with daily activities is a Plan Toys stroke of genius!

Plan Toys Tori Rocking Horse: nowadays rocking horses come in all shapes and sizes. This gorgeous Tori rocking horse is a perfect first rocking horse for children of around two years and upwards. The simple construction works wonderfully with the natural wood to produce a toy which will encourage imaginative play, help burn off excess energy and promote physical development. This one will be a firm favourite in no time!

We hope this very quick look at a small selection of Plan Toys’ products gives you a flavour of the quality of these toys. Plan is a company that places a high importance on producing environmentally friendly toys that keep children close to nature. The natural look and feel of so many of these toys helps connect children with the world around them. They are as pleasing on the eye as they are on the soul and we think you’ll love them as much as your children!

  • Baby Toys for Development

My kids are three and a half now (the half is very important) and it's wonderful to see how well they are progressing and not a day goes by when they do not amaze me. We've always placed a huge emphasis on play in our family, right from the word go and we're convinced that the amount of time we spend simply playing with our children since they were born has helped them to develop. • Toy Buying Guide By Age

Now if you're not a parent and don't have too much contact with very young nieces, nephews or your friends' kids, then buying a toy for their birthday or Christmas present can be a little tricky. You sort of know they’re young, could just about guess their age, know what they look like and you also know they make a fair bit of noise and you don’t see their parents quite as much as you used to.
