The WoodenToyShop Guide to Play Food

Plan Toys Breakfast Menu

Are you feeling hungry? Or maybe you are starved of information about which toy food to buy for your junior chef or apprentice shopkeeper? With so many children hoping to receive a toy kitchen or pretend shop for their next birthday or Christmas, we hope the following WoodenToyShop guide to play food will help grownups select some perfect wooden food to cook in the kitchen or sell in the shop.

Breakfast Time

Experts agree that it is important to start the day with a good breakfast. Getting children to eat early in the morning can sometimes be difficult, so our wooden food will help parents talk to children about the importance of the first meal of the day while the kids are playing. Take a look at our breakfast sets, such as the very stylish Plan Toys Breakfast Menu (pictured above) or the beautiful and brilliant Le Toy Van Honeybake Breakfast Set which has a boiled egg and soldiers, fruit, a croissant, cereal bowl and toaster with two slices of toast. If there isn’t something among all that food that your toddler will eat, we’ll eat our hats!

Elevenses

Whether you prefer tea and cake or tea and biscuits, we all enjoy a mid-morning snack or indeed afternoon tea. Our selection of tea sets, wooden cupcakes, biscuits and cookies is second to none. Take a look at the Bigjigs Cake Stand with 12 Cakes. This three tiered cake stand is crammed with very familiar tasty cakes and biscuits that will tempt and delight in equal measure. Of course, the John Crane Tidlo High Tea Shape Sorter is one of our customers’ most popular toys.

Special Occasions

Some children would eat birthday cake every day if only we would let them! A happy compromise might be one of our special occasion cakes, such as the Le Toy Van Vanilla Birthday Cake. This beautiful toy cake is topped with a juicy strawberry and is divided into six scrummy slices, all of which have their own pretend birthday candle (we know how important these things are with children). The slices are connected with Velcro discs and the cake comes with a cake cutter which will allow the kids to cut pieces of cake while learning or remembering how good it is to share. Other celebratory cakes include the Melissa and Doug Birthday Party Cake and the very glamorous Melissa and Doug Tiered Cake which can be used for pretend weddings, birthdays or any other special occasion.

Cookery Lessons

There is so much concern about children’s diet and nutrition; we are great believers in encouraging children to enjoy food, no more so than when they pretend to cook their own meals. Fans of the Great British Bake Off will adore the Melissa and Doug Bake and Decorate Cupcake Set, the Bigjigs Young Chef’s Baking Set, the Le Toy Van Honeybake Baking Role Play Set and the Honeybake Cookie Set.

Of course, cooking is about more than cakes and cookies, so we also recommend the Melissa and Doug Cutting Food, the Sandwich Making Set, the Le Toy Van Create Your Own Pizza and the delightful Janod Magnetic Lunch Set which has a tray/cutting board and plenty of fruit and veg to play with.

Despite what seems like a succession of wet summers, we Brits love nothing more than dining outdoors. When the weather allows, we head straight for the garden and fire up the barbecue. The Janod Magnetic Barbecue Trolley lets the children have a barbie even when it’s raining! This wonderful wooden toy will keep toddlers amused for hours as they wheel it around, cooking up a storm, flipping burgers and sizzling some sausages. The portable Janod Barbecue Set is a smaller option, but no less fun.

If you prefer more old school outdoor dining, then why not try the Janod Picnic Hamper, a delightful gingham picnic case? Of course, you’ll need some food to go with the beautiful picnic set, so how about the Janod Sandwich Box, some Tidlo Cakes and Drums and perhaps Bigjigs Tea for Two?

Food Groups

Preschools and nurseries often ask us for collections of different types of food. The Melissa and Doug Food Groups is a fine example of this kind of wooden toy which offers a combination of value for money and educational play. This toy comprises four wooden crates filled with colourful and tactile examples of four key food groups – carbohydrates, protein, dairy and fruit/vegetables. Similar toys include the Bigjigs Healthy Eating Fish Set, the Healthy Eating Dairy Food Set, the John Crane Winter Vegetables and the Tidlo Fruit Salad.
