Children are beside themselves with excitement. Mums and Dads have moved into major planning mode. Grandparents, aunties, uncles and friends stand at the ready. Yes, half term is approaching and we all need a helping hand with ideas for entertaining the kids during the holiday. Here at WoodenToyShop we head straight for our Art and Creativity section as a starting point.
Despite the occasional sunny outbreak, you can’t help thinking that the end of October will bring us predominantly ‘indoor activity’ weather. Kitchen and dining tables, desks and floors across the land will be occupied by demanding children with energy to burn and creative itches that must be scratched!
Why not try a little stamping? Kids love having their own rubber stamps and ink pads and indulging in a bit of printing and decoration. Obviously, you’ll need to provide plenty of paper or you may find your kitchen table has been stencilled with the odd dinosaur or two. Fear not, most of our wooden stamp sets come with pads of paper to avert any amateur interior design!
Alternatively, how about a hobby kit? If you want to give your little treasure an enjoyable project which will keep them occupied and ultimately reward them with something special, we have lots of decorate-your-own sets including trains, money boxes, treasure chests and a fabulous jewellery box. These enjoyable sets challenge children to work patiently and creatively and teach them the benefit of hard work and concentration – all in the name of fun!
While the kids are off school, why not try something a little old school and see how they take to a jigsaw puzzle? We have quite a selection of 24 and 48 piece jigsaws to choose from and even a whopping 100 piece Pirate’s Bounty Floor Puzzle as well as jigsaws that reveal maps of the world and of the United Kingdom – you can’t beat combining fun with learning!
How about some more retro toys? When it’s raining outside and you have some bored children on your hands, reach for a compendium of games, a tiddly wink set, Ludo or some dominoes. Our traditional wooden games are timeless classics that you can turn to time and time again.
You never know, the rain might stay away in half term, giving you enough time to take a trip to the park, into town to do a little shopping or to visit the library to choose some new books and maybe even (if everyone promises to be good!) to the cinema. If you don’t feel like straying too far and you’ve been meaning to get out into the garden and get it ready for winter, our gardening toys will let the kids get involved while you clear away all the fallen leaves and apples or weed the flower beds one last time. Children love digging, watering, raking and generally being ‘helpful’ outdoors, don’t they?
You may even have an apprentice botanist or naturalist in your home. He or she will love the Bigjigs Magnifying Glass and the Bug Box which gives them somewhere handy to keep their discoveries. Just make sure they close it up before they bring their discoveries indoors!
