Drive Imagination with a Toy Garage

Janod Toy Garage

The garage offers lots of interesting things to see. It truly is a hive of activity, what with all the cars, noises and smells and it offers a child a multitude of ideas for their pretend play once they’re back in the playroom with their toys. Most children will have a toy car or two in their collection so they can get to work on pretending to fix it or fill it up with fuel but what better way to foster this love of all things mechanical than to get them their very own toy garage to re-enact the scenes they see when they’re out with Mummy and Daddy attending to the car?

A toy garage is one of the classic wooden toys that most adults have some distant memory of being in their toy collection and apart from one or two more modern twists, they haven’t really changed that much today. They still just about all come with a central spiral ramp leading up to a first or second floor area and this provides endless opportunities for kids to race their favourite toy cars up and down. Any cars that are in need of repair can be transported from the ground floor up to the upper decks by the elevator that is an essential element of any good toy garage.

The elevator feature, whilst being a really fun part of the garage, also encourages a child to develop manual dexterity and reasoning – in other words, if I do that, then this happens. It’s another fun way of learning basic skills that wooden toys seem to supply in abundance.

Some toy garages are more than just a garage. Take the John Crane Acorn Garage as an example. It’s a three storey version and the ground floor is reserved for all the day-to-day things that you might need to do to your car, such as put it through the car wash, top up the tank with petrol or diesel or take it for its annual service. The floors above, accessed either by ramp or lift are designated parking areas but they will almost certainly be used for racing the cars around, providing a multitude of opportunities for pile-ups and crashes and perhaps even the odd car breaking through the barriers and flying through the air to crash land and need repairing by the busy mechanics in the service area.
