At WoodenToyShop headquarters, one of our team is very excited about the Olympics and specifically about the cycling events that will take place in the London Velopark and also on the roads of the capital, out into Surrey and then back again. The Great Britain cycling squad appears to have significant strength in depth, with young cyclists regularly coming through the ranks to challenge the established champions for places in the Olympic races. A passion for cycling is very often born at an early age so here at WoodenToyShop we are very pleased to present our Guide to Ride On Toys and Balance Bikes for parents who are keen to show their children the joys of life on four, three and finally two wheels!
One of our most popular ranges of ride on toys for young children is Wheely Bugs. These beautiful and unique ride on toys come in two sizes – small and large – which are suitable for children from around the age of 12 months up to 2 years* and over. As with every toy, of course, parents need to make their own choice about which size is suitable for their kids and for this reason we publish the dimensions of each of our Wheely Bugs to help mums and dads make the right choice. Mind you, the children will want to be heavily involved in choosing their Wheely Bug because there is a wonderful selection of bugs and animals to choose from: would you like a tiger, bumble bee, cow, mouse or ladybird?

This lovely retro wooden toy comes in smooth light wood with red and blue paint and sturdy black wheels. Children love scooting around on this trike which is easy to carry up the stairs or out into the garden. We recommend that this trike is suitable for children around 18 months and over.
What a gorgeous retro four wheeler!We couldn’t possible talk about ride ons, first bikes and sit on toys without mentioning the BigJigs ride on animals. We love these clever wooden toys which double as shape sorting toys and mobile toy boxes! Take the BigJigs Ride On Giraffe, for example. This wonderfully colourful ride on toy is such fun to ride, but also comes with wooden blocks that can be fitted into corresponding side slots. We can get enough of these vibrant four wheelers, which are recommended for children of around 12 months and over.
What a cracker!When your little cyclists are ready to work on improving their balance on two wheels, our range of wooden balance bikes is highly recommended. Parents who are fans of motorcycling will love the John Crane Tidlo First Motorbike and the Tidlo Red Scooter (also available in lemon). The First Motorbike takes pride of place in our affections because it reminds us of the real thing. But if we put our sensible hats on for a moment, this bike, like all our balance bikes, is robust and durable and offers children the opportunity to improve their balancing skills and strengthen their developing leg muscles while having lots and lots of fun!
